Volunteer role: Local ‘Join the Search’ Volunteer –London

Team: Local Areas Team

Location: Community based activities in London and working from home.

 Time commitment:

The specific nature of your role will affect the hours worked. These will be different for each volunteer. It may be that you volunteer 10 hours over a weekend once every couple of months or more regularly give 4 hours a week. However we do expect commitment of a minimum of 1 year.

Purpose:

To recruit ‘Search Partners’ in your area (organisations who display posters of people missing in their area) and to raise awareness of Missing People’s services.

Dependent on your skills and experience duties may include:

• Visiting local organisations and businesses and encouraging them to become Search Partners. A Search Partner will display a poster of a person missing in their area, encouraging the public to call our sightings helpline if they have any information regarding the missing person’s whereabouts. A Search Partner can be any organisation that has space to display a poster and might include libraries, shops, cafes and local high-street businesses.

• Recruiting new Search Partners over the phone

• Presenting to various community groups, including schools and churches, about Missing People to inspire them about our work with vulnerable missing persons and their families

• Supporting Missing People’s work at our own and partners’ events

• Supporting your Local Coordinator as requested to help increase support for Missing People

Skills and experience:

To have or be able to demonstrate potential for:

• Good communication skills

• Good organisational skills

• A personable and friendly character

• Competence using computers, Microsoft Office, internet, e-mail. Access to your own computer would be desirable but not essential.

• Be passionate about supporting missing people and their families

Training:

All necessary training will be provided by your Local Coordinator and we will arrange a date with you post interview.

Support:

You will be supported in your role by your Local Coordinator, who will discuss with you how we can best support you when you begin in the role.
