Rock Choir raises thousands of pounds to support the search for the missing

Rock Choir, the world’s largest amateur contemporary choir, with around 16,000 members across the UK, has raised over £13,000 – to help support Missing People’s search for the 250,000 people who go missing in the UK every year.

Rock Choir launched its partnership with Missing People at Wembley Arena in May 2010, where members simultaneously held up 10,000 posters of missing children to raise awareness of International Missing Children’s Day.

In December 2011, Rock Choir members across the UK held a series of events to raise vital funds. Among the popular events were 'Frothy Cappuccino and a Piece of Cake,' coffee and cake sales, based on one of the fun, warm-up vocal exercises Rock Choir leaders carry out at the beginning of every rehearsal.

Martin Houghton-Brown, chief executive of the charity Missing People said, "One of the reasons why our partnership with Rock Choir works so well is the wonderful synergy between our two organisations. Rock Choir brings communities together by giving them the common language of music, creating harmony and building relationships. That is why they are such perfect partners, as the charity's team works day and night to creating harmony in families, bringing people together."

Having presented Martin with the cheque on behalf of all Rock Choir members, Caroline Redman Lusher, Rock Choir founder and director said, "Missing People is an independent charity that relies on donations to provide a national 24-hour response to families and missing people in the UK. At least 20,000 families urgently need support, which is why we want to do as much as we can to make a difference, and Rock Choir members have responded with their usual community spirit and generosity."

Musician and singer Caroline started Rock Choir in 2005, to help reignite the joy of singing, bring people together and give them a positive, life enhancing experience. Rock Choir offers children, teenagers and adults the opportunity to sing pop, Motown, gospel and chart songs, without the need to audition, read music, or have any previous singing experience – it's the contemporary choir for people who just love to sing.
