Families of missing people remember loved ones at Christmas

Last night (12th December) families of missing people and celebrity supporters of the charity Missing People including Sir Trevor McDonald OBE and actress Brenda Blethyn OBE - came together in London to remember missing loved ones.

Organised by the charity Missing People and the Missing Persons Bureau more than 800 families and supporters packed St-Martins-in-the-Fields church in Trafalgar Square for a poignant evening of remembrance.

Kate McCann said: "The Christmas Carol Service at St Martin-in-the-Fields was beautiful. The singing, the readings, the prayers and above all, the togetherness of everyone gathered in the church were a much-needed reminder that none of us is alone and our missing loved ones are not forgotten.

"Thank you to the charity Missing People, the Missing Person's Bureau and to everybody who helped to make the service so special - and for making the void in our family this Christmas time that little bit smaller."

The event included performances by Rock Choir and the Choral Scholars of St-Martin-in-the-Fields as well as readings by Sir Trevor McDonald OBE, Brenda Blethyn OBE and families of missing people. The service was in the presence of the charity's Royal Patron, HRH The Duchess of Gloucester, GCVO.

Martin Houghton-Brown, Chief Executive of Missing People said: “Christmas is a very emotional time for all the families who are missing a loved one, many of whom need additional support. We are so grateful to everyone who supported the Carol Service and helped the charity to be a lifeline to more families this Christmas.”
