BBC1 series Missing 2011 results in 90 sightings

LMThe new series of BBC1’s Missing programme – which ran every day from May 9 -13 – resulted in 258 calls to Missing People and an amazing 90 sightings to pass on to the police.

The show, which was hosted by BBC Breakfast’s Louise Minchin and produced with the help of Missing People, featured interviews with the families of vulnerable adults and children missing from home. The programme also included urgent appeals for information, and interviews with families who had been reunited after a disappearance.

There were also special celebrity guest appearances, including Brenda Blethyn, Esther Rantzen and Gaynor Faye, and updates on some high profile Missing stories from the recent past.

Host Louise Minchin said, “With each new season of the programme I find myself increasingly struck by the ripple effects of 'missing' on the family, friends, colleagues and community around that person. I only hope that by casting a light on the people affected - even for just one week - we can help raise awareness and call needed attention to this incredibly important issue.”
