10k Run in Regent’s Park to Remember Missing People

The charity Missing People will host the second annual ‘Miles for Missing People’ running event in Regent’s Park, London on Saturday, April 2.

The 6.2 mile (10K) race will bring together up to 1,000 people to raise money and awareness for the charity Missing People – including Rachel Elias, sister of former Manic Street Preachers guitarist Richey Edwards, celebrity supporters including Sue Cook, and 400 members of the singing sensation Rock Choir.

Last year’s inaugural ‘Miles for Missing People’ event saw over 400 people sign up to take part and raised more than £50,000. The event gained coverage in almost every Sunday national newspaper, and was reported on BBC, Sky News, ITN, ITV, and Channel 4.

This year’s event has been timed as a warm-up run for anyone planning to take part in the Virgin London Marathon on April 17 2011, and there is also a 2km Fun Run for children and anyone interested in taking a more leisurely pace.

Martin Houghton-Brown, the CEO of Missing People, said, “We’re so grateful to all the runners taking part in Miles for Missing People, and our hope is that this event will allow us to improve and expand our services, so that we can be a lifeline when someone disappears.”

All proceeds will help Missing People offer a lifeline to the 250,000 people who go missing or run away each year, and provide specialised support to the families left behind.
